I'm selling to you, but I have no clue what you want...

I usually don't respond to standard, boring cold outreach from entitled-sounding PrOFeSsIonALs.

I made an exception this one time as he was originally from Sri Lanka but lived in an exotic East Asian country.

Also, his cold DM was serendipitous; I was in the market for what he was offering.

After a few back and forth messages, we scheduled an e-meet.

He gave me a brief introduction about his business and the services they provide.

Then, he asked me...

"So, Naveen, tell me about your company. I didn't do look up any details, because I wanted to hear it from you?"

Me thinking...

WHAT? YOU'RE SELLING TO ME, YET DIDN'T BOTHER RESEARCHING THE COMPANY I WORK FOR?

Also, I asked him a lot of questions about his life in the East Asian country. Despite all my questions about this, he didn't realise I was Sri Lankan too!

Meaning, he hadn't even gone through my LinkedIn profile!

Somehow, I guess I was in a good mood, that I continued with the conversation and even gave him a brief to pitch for.

The point I'm trying to make is...

How many PrOFeSsIonALs are selling their products/services on LinkedIn using this lame approach?

"Out of the blue" DMs pretending to be interested in networking and then slapping us with an unsolicited pitch.

Not responding to our replies.

Or, going silent when we say "I'm not interested".

My questions is, does this actually work?
