Even the best offer CAN be refused

Even the best offer CAN be refused

A quick trip to Narellan Town Centre with the family resulted in us dropping by BigW.

Aditi spotted a collection of bath time toys.

Now, toddler parents know the challenges of bath time!

From getting them into the bath, to making the bath enjoyable, to getting them out.

I won't even go into drying, applying creams, putting on diapers etc.

With Aditi, the hardest part is getting her out of the bath. How bad her mood is at that time is positively correlated to how difficult everything else that follows is going to be.

Drying and dressing a tantruming toddler = Wrestling a crocodile

To get her to move her away from that section of BigW, I made her an offer she couldn't refuse.

"Let's look around some more and you can pick any toy you like. After all, this is only the first one that you saw. "

She didn't budge.

Before you come at me with parenting tips, let's unpack what just happened and how this applies to marketing.

Despite better options being available, Aditi's mind was closed off to them.

In the case of your prospect...

They may or may not know of the "better" alternative - your product/service.

But if their mind is already made up - closed off - no matter how good an offer you make, it'll fall on deaf ears.

This could be because of one or more of the following:

  • Your offer is c*ap
  • They don't have sufficient information to trust you
  • They didn't understand your offer
  • They have a reason for their brand loyalty that you did not address

In Aditi's case, it was that she didn't understand my offer. My logical presentation of facts failed.

Deconstruct your marketing.

Where exactly is your messaging falling short?
